Harvey's broken leg

Organized by A New Leash on Life Rescue

Broken right femur required surgery

Harvey was brought into the Ashtabula APL as a stray. His right femur was already broken when he came in, and was apparently never addressed, so it had already begun to heal. A New Leash on Life Rescue stepped in to help poor Harvey.

Harvey was taken to the orthopedic surgeon in Akron, who said the fracture was several weeks old and starting to fuse, but felt he could re-break and repair it to give Harvey use of the leg again. After several hours in surgery, 2 pins and $2,100 later, he's as fixed as he can get!

There was a lot of scar tissue and stuff in there, but the surgeon feels the surgery will be successful. The growth plate may have been affected at the time of the original break, so there's a possibility his right hind leg may be a wee bit shorter than his left as an adult, but not significantly so per the specialist. We'll see!

Harvey will required many more post-op visits and possibly physical therapy too. He's very cute and super sweet, and is definitely deserving of his second chance. :) He is really mellow, and very affectionate. He loves to cuddle and will happily snuggle with you all day!

Please contribute to Harvey's fund to help with the veterinary costs of his surgery and post-op care. Thank you!
